Summer time is Pool time!
We sprang from early spring to summer in a few short days. The garden is rampant and the pool crystal clear and inviting.
We're scheduled to be on the Carbondale Garden Tour June 3, so I've been getting the last of the bedding plants in, grubbing out the sprouts and weeds that love any loose soil, and spreading mulch. The peonies and Dutch and Siberian irises were late, coming and going in a heartbeat, as have the roses. I guess it's payback for having the early spring ephemerals, daffodils, hyacinths, and crocuses around so long.
I was able to find some flowers for the Pool House - pink spirea, the end of the Russian sage and catmint, gorgeous late roses... And now the yarrow is coming in and the magnolias, which are abundant this year, perfume the air. The dwarf zinnias and marigolds are blooming effusively. It's such a joy to walk in the garden with Hula before breakfast, looking to see what flowers have just arrived. Every day it changes.
